The Case for Sunday

Christ rose from the dead on Sunday.
Our Sunday worship commemorates this glorious event.
Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:9, Luke 24:1, John 20:1

The Old Testament law and 10 Commandments do not apply to the NT believer.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his crossColossians 2:13-14
(see also: Romans 10:4, Galatians 2:16, Galatians 3:1-29, Ephesians 2:15, 1 Timothy 1:9-10)

Christ fulfilled the law and triumphed over it – giving us a better hope.  Matthew 5:17, Luke 24:44

Paul started Sunday worship.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.  Acts 20:7-12

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.  1 Corinthians 16:1-3
(see also:  Famine predicted Acts 11:27-30, Gift delivered Romans 15:25-28)

Paul only kept the Sabbath to evangelize the Jews.
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.  Acts 13:46-47

Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
Galatians 4:8-11

John worshiped on Sunday.
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet
Revelation 1:10

The early church fathers instituted Sunday worship.

Christ is our “rest” in the NT.
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.  Matthew 11:28-29

The Case for the Sabbath Day

The 4th Commandment in the OT
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:8-11, Genesis 2:1-3

The 4th Commandment in the NT
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.   Hebrews 3:7 to 4:11

The “example of unbelief” included greatly profaning the Sabbath.  Ezekiel 20:12-13

The other nine commandments also apply to us in the NT.  1) 1Corinthians 8:5-6, 2) Acts 17:29, 3)
1Timothy 6:1,
5) Ephesians 6:2, 6) 1John 3:15, 7-8) 1Corinthians 6:9-10, 9) Colossians 3:9,
10)
Ephesians 5:5

The Ten Commandments are written on the hearts of NT believers.
"Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah… this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.  Jeremiah 31:31-33, Hebrews 8:8-13

Christians today are to follow Paul’s example.
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.  1 Corinth. 11:1, Philippians 3:17, Luke 4:16, Acts 17:2

Paul gave us a clear example of remembering the Sabbath day and keeping it holy.
Acts 13:14, Acts 13:42, Acts 13:44, Acts 16:13, Acts 18:4 and 11 [78 Sabbaths]

Sabbath days are a sign between God and His people.
And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.  Ezekiel 20:20,  Exodus 31:13-17, (NT Christians are Israel: Romans 9:6-8, Romans 11:17-23)

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.  Galatians 3:29

Sabbath observance was prophesied along with Messiah’s first coming
Isaiah prophesies of a time when Messiah will be revealed and Gentiles will join themselves to God.  At that time, those Gentiles will keep from profaning the Sabbath day.   Isaiah 56:1-7

But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:  Matthew 24:20

The Sabbath Day will be remembered and kept holy in the 1000 year reign of Christ.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.  Isaiah 66:22-23, (It’s sin to rebuild: Galatians 2:18)

First Fruits is a very special Sunday.

The word Sabbath is found 61 times in the NT.  The “first day of the week” is found eight times. Six times it refers to the discovery of our risen Lord.   The first fruits grain offering occurred once each year on a Sunday.  Messiah is our first fruits offering.  He was discovered alive and ascended to God on first fruits Sunday.  Leviticus 23:10-11, 1 Corinthians 15:20-23, John 20:17
