The Few

Matthew 7:13-14  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Luke 13:22-30  And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.  23  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,  24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.  25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:  26  Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.  27  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.  28  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.  29  And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.  30  And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

Matthew 7:21-23  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  22  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Matthew 9:37-38  Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few38  Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Matthew 22:1-14  And Yahshua answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,  2  The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,  3  And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.  4  Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.  But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:  6  And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them7  But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.  Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.  9  Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.  10  So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.  11  And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:  12  And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.  13  Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  14  For many are called, but few are chosen.

The Remnant

Jeremiah 42:2  And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto Yahweh thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

Romans 9:27  Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

Romans 11:1-5  I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.  2  God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,  3  Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.  But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.  5  Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Revelation 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Yahshua Messiah.

The World

John 7:7  The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

John 15:19  If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

John 17:9  I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

John 17:25  O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

The Rich

Luke 18:23-27  And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24  And when Yahshua saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!  25  For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.  26  And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?  27  And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

In “A Landmark Study on Household Wealth” just issued by the United Nations, we learn that 2% of the people on the planet commandeer half the world’s wealth, while the bottom 50% control, as a whole, only 1%.

America has 5% of the world’s population, but we control 33% of the world’s wealth.

78% of Americans call themselves “Christian”

The Last Days

2 Timothy 3:1-5  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;  5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Luke 18:7-8  And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?  8  I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Examples From History

The Flood

Genesis 7:23  And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

Estimates of the world population, before the flood, range from 5 to 17 billion, with the average being about 10 billion.

Sodom and Gomorrah

Abraham pleaded with Yahweh to spare Sodom and Gomorrah for the sake of the righteous that were living there.  Asking first if he would spare the cities if 50 righteous were there, the answer was yes.  After asking about 45, 40, 30, and 20, the answer was still yes.  And finally Abraham asks…

Genesis 18:32  And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten [righteous] shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

There were less than 10 righteous people in the combined populations of Sodom and Gomorrah.

2 Peter 2:5-8  And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;  6  And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;  7  And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:  (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

There was apparently only one righteous man in Sodom and Gomorrah at the time of the divine destruction.

The Exodus

Exodus 12:37  And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.

Numbers 32:9-13  For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Yahweh had given them.  10  And Yahweh's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,  11  Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:  12  Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed Yahweh.  13  And Yahweh's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of Yahweh, was consumed.

In Elijah’s Day

1 Kings 19:14  And [Elijah] said, I have been very jealous for Yahweh God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

1 Kings 19:18  [And Yahweh said unto him] Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

Let’s get a little perspective on this number.

2 Samuel 24:9  And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

So we have 1.3 million men + perhaps 1.3 million women = 2.6 million adults.  The population should have been even larger in Elijah’s day
(about 100 years after David).
Simply using David’s census numbers, seven thousand is 0.27% of 2.6 million.

In Yahshua’s Day?

Luke 17:11-19  And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.  12  And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:  13  And they lifted up their voices, and said, Yahshua, Master, have mercy on us.  14  And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
15
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,  16  And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.  17  And Yahshua answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?  18  There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.  19  And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

A Great Multitude

Revelation 7:9-10  After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;  10  And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

It is estimated that 100 Billion People have lived on our planet.

Counting six days a week, how long does it take to count to…

100.0%

=
100.
Billion
4000 Years
10.0%

400 Years
1.0%

40 Years

100 Million

What I want to point out here is how small the percentage could be and still fulfill the prophecy that “no man could number” the great multitude seen in Revelation 7:9.
