Grace

Titus 2:11-12  For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12  instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;

Jude 1:3-7 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 4 For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Yeshua Messiah our only Sovereign and Lord.
5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Different Degrees of Sin

Matthew 12:31-32  Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.   32  Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is to come.

John 19:11  Yeshua answered, “You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin.”

1 John 5:16-18  If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don’t say that he should make a request concerning this.  17  All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.  18  We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him.

Sin That Leads To Death

1 Corinthians 6:9-10  Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,  10  nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21  Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness,  20  idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,  21  envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:5-6  Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Messiah and God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.

1 John 3:14-15  We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.  15  Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

Revelation 21:7-8  He who overcomes, I will give him these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son.   8  But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Revelation 22:14-15  Blessed are those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.   15  Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Here is how many times each of these were mentioned in the verses above.
1. Sexually immoral – 5
7. Covetous – 2
2. Idolaters – 5
8. Liars – 2
3. Murderers - 4
9. Hatred – 2
4. Sorcerers – 3
10. Unclean – 2
5. Adulterers – 2
11. Thieves – 1
6. Drunkenness – 2
12. Homosexuals - 1

James 2:10-11  For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.  11  For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

James 4:17  To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.

Matthew 6:14-15  “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.   15  But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

In the Torah, some sins require the death penalty and others require a less severe punishment.

Leviticus 24:17  “‘He who strikes any man mortally shall surely be put to death.

Exodus 22:1  “If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

Deuteronomy 21:22-23  If a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and you hang him on a tree;  23  his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God; that you don’t defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.

King David

2 Samuel 12:1-13  Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.  2  The rich man had very many flocks and herds,  3  but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him like a daughter.  4  A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man who had come to him.”
5  David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die!  6  He shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”
7  Nathan said to David, “You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.  8  I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.  9  Why have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.  10  Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
11  “This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.  12  For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
13  David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.”
Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.

When the Righteous Turn Away

Ezekiel 18:24-26  But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.  25  Yet you say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?  26  When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies therein; in his iniquity that he has done shall he die.

Ezekiel 33:13  When I tell the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his righteousness, and commit iniquity, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered; but in his iniquity that he has committed, therein shall he die.

Ezekiel 33:18  When the righteous turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall even die therein.

Parables About The Lost

Matthew 18:12-13  How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?  13  And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

Luke 15:11-32  He said, “A certain man had two sons.   12  The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of your property.’ He divided his livelihood between them.    13 Not many days after, the younger son gathered all of this together and traveled into a far country. There he wasted his property with riotous living.   14  When he had spent all of it, there arose a severe famine in that country, and he began to be in need.   15  He went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.   16  He wanted to fill his belly with the husks that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.   17  But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough to spare, and I’m dying with hunger!   18  I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.   19 I am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.”’
20  “He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.   21  The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22  “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.   23  Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate;   24  for this, my son, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’ They began to celebrate.
25  “Now his elder son was in the field. As he came near to the house, he heard music and dancing.   26  He called one of the servants to him, and asked what was going on.   27  He said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and healthy.’   28  But he was angry, and would not go in. Therefore his father came out, and begged him.   29  But he answered his father, ‘Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.   30  But when this, your son, came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’
31  “He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.   32  But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’”

G622 apollumi ap-ol'-loo-mee
to destroy fully (reflexively to perish, or lose), literally or figuratively: - destroy, die, lose, mar, perish.

Lost
1. Unable to find one's way: a lost child.
2.
a. No longer in the possession, care, or control of someone or something: a lost pen.
b. No longer in existence; vanished or spent: lost youth.
c. No longer known or practiced: a lost art.

Mark 8:35  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

Examples of Losing Salvation

John 17:12  While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. Those whom you have given me I have kept. None of them is lost, except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

James 5:19-20  Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,  20  let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.

1 Timothy 1:18-20  This instruction I commit to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to you, that by them you may wage the good warfare;  19  holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith;  20  of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered to Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.

Romans 11:19-21  You will say then, “Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.” 20  True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear;  21  for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.

Galatians 5:1-7  Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Messiah has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.  2  Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Messiah will profit you nothing.  3  Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.  You are alienated from Messiah, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace For we, through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness.  6  For in Messiah Yeshua neither circumcision amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.  7  You were running well! Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth?

Judas Iscariot

Titus 1:6-9  If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.  7  For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;  8  But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;  9  Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

1 Timothy 3:1-7  This is a faithful saying: if a man seeks the office of an overseer, he desires a good work.  2  The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;  3  not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;  one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;  5  (but if a man doesn’t know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of God?)  6  not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.  7  Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.

1 Corinthians 12:28  And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Selecting people for the highest office in the church is a serious task.  Judas Iscariot must have met these high qualifications at the time he became one of the 12 disciples.

Matthew 10:1-8   He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
5 These twelve Yeshua sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Matthew 12:47-50  One said to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you.”
48  But he answered him who spoke to him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
49  He stretched out his hand towards his disciples, and said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! 50  For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Judas was a man of faith and a born again believer, but later his faith was shipwrecked.

Acts 1:15-17  In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Yeshua— 17 he was one of our number and shared in this ministry."

Acts 1:23-25  So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs."

Yeshua called Judas “a devil.”  Does that mean that Judas was never born again?

John 6:70-71  Yeshua answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”  71  Now he spoke of Judah, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.

Peter was called “Satan.”  Does that mean that Peter was never born again?

Mark 8:33  But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

Conditional Salvation Example

Acts 27:20-32  When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.
21  When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them, and said, “Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss.  22  Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.  23  For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve,  24  saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. Behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ 25  Therefore, sirs, cheer up! For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me.  26  But we must run aground on a certain island.”
27  But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land.  28  They took soundings, and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms.  29  Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight.  30  As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow,  31  Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, “Unless these stay in the ship, you can’t be saved.” 32  Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let it fall off.

Acts 27:44  So it happened that they all escaped safely to the land.

John 10:27-29  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.   28  I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.   29  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

The Book Of Life

Exodus 32:31-33  Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.  32  Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
33  Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Revelation 3:5-6  He who overcomes will be arrayed in white garments, and I will in no way blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.   6  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

We Must Endure To The End

Matthew 10:22  [Yeshua instructing the 12 disciples] You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

Matthew 24:12-13  Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.   13  But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.

Luke 21:17-19  You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake.   18  And not a hair of your head will perish.  19  “By your endurance you will win your lives.

2 Timothy 2:12  If we endure, we will also reign with him.  If we deny him, he also will deny us.

Hebrews 10:36  For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise.
