Introduction:

Just as we have put out the leavened bread from our houses and also the leaven of sin out of our hearts for Passover, we must then keep the leaven of sin out of our hearts for the entire year!  Not just for Passover!

 

Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation [or conduct] be as it becometh the gospel of Messiah: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of Elohim.

 

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Messiah, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for His sake;
30 Having the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Philippians 2:1  If there be therefore any consolation in Messiah, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercies,
2  Fulfil you my joy, that you be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

II Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of Elohim standeth sure, having this seal, The Master knoweth them that are His. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Messiah depart from iniquity.

A believer in any assembly is to honor the teaching of Messiah or the gospel. The believer’s behavior is to be suitable for the gospel of Yahoshua he professes, it is to be worthy of the gospel of Yahoshua he professes,  and it is to correspond to the gospel he professes. We must put on the teaching of Yahoshua and wear it.  In other words we are to cloth our selves completely, both with our heart and body with Yahoshua and His teaching!

In Titus 2:10b, that they may adorn the doctrine of Yahoshua our Saviour in all things.

 

PAST EXAMPLES here again in the Last Days

Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
27  They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Genesis 6:1  And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2   That the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3   And YHVH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4   There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of Elohim came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5   And Elohim saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6   And it repented YHVH that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart.
7   And YHVH said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8   But Noah found grace in the eyes of YHVH.

Luke 17:28  Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
29  But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30  Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Genesis 18:20  And YHVH said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
21  I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
Genesis 19:24 Then YHVH rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from YHVH out of heaven;
25 And He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

After Lot separated from Abraham, he pitched his tent toward Sodom (Genesis 13:12). It wasn’t long Lot moved closer and then moved into the city of Sodom (Genesis 14:12). Families today are sort of like Lot. They go to the services and are taught what sin basically is and the evilness of sin, the penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

Just like Lot they pitch their houses, (chairs or sofas), toward Sodom (wrong TV programs, wrong Movies, wrong Parties, wrong Attire, etc.). They move closer and closer, little by little --- Doesn’t look quite so bad now. Getting a little more used to it. Just a common thing of today. Just another way of life! 

II Peter 2:4  For if Elohim spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
5   And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the unrighteous;
6   And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live unrighteous;
7   And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8   (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
9   YHVH knoweth how to deliver the righteous out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

CAPTIVATED BY SATAN

LITTLE BY LITTLE, gradually, day by day, each generation is getting more liberal to what SIN really is! The blackness of sin is being whitewashed and watered down. Instead of being an OVERCOMER of SIN, people are being overcome by sin!

II Timothy  2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if Elohim peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Matthew 7: 21 Not every one that saith unto Me, Master, Master, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, you that work iniquity.

REASONS FOR NOT OVERCOMING

There is a lack of interest in spiritual things today, but not a lack of interests in everything else! Instead of going for services to worship the Creator and ask about putting something into the service, people are looking for how much did the service do for them. Some get bored and would rather be entertained. Many are all bound up with the cares of this life so much, they can’t open themselves up to the spiritual things Yahoshua has for us. It all depends where our heart is whether we will enjoy the service and get a blessing from it.

Yahoshua warned us, Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35  For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36  Watch you therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

I Peter 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9   Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

 

RESPONSE TO THE MASTER

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

James 1:22 But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

 

SIN, WHAT IS IT?

How can anyone overcome sin if they don’t know what sin is? Has sin ever changed? Has sin always been sin? When did sin cease to be sin?

I John 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

James 2:8  If you fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, you do well:
9  But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 For He that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

So John declares SIN is the transgression of the law and James identifies that this law is  the Ten Commandment Law! Stephen declares that this Ten Commandment Law was to be given to us in the New Covenant:

Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall YHVH your Elohim raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall you hear.
38  This is He, that was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

 

HOW DO I OVERCOME SIN?

Jeremiah 29:12 Then shall you call upon Me, and you shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you.
13  And you shall seek Me, and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart.
14  And I will be found of you, saith YHVH: and I will turn away your captivity, [the captivity of sin and set you free]
Matthew 6:33 But seek you first the kingdom of Elohim, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Messiah which strengtheneth me.

Yahoshua will forgive us our sin, but now we have to do our part by forsaking sin! Now we must be positively determined and willing to bury the old man of sin and to keep him buried!

Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Romans 6:1  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2    Elohim (God) forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3    Know you not, that so many of us as were baptized into Yahoshua Messiah were baptized into his death?
4    Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Messiah was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5    For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection:
6    Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7    For he that is dead is freed from sin.
12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13  Neither yield you your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto Elohim, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto Elohim.
14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace.
15  What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Elohim forbid.
16  Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Ephesians 4:22 That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24  And that you put on the new man, which after Elohim is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26  Be you angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27  Neither give place to the devil.
28  Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30  And grieve not the holy Spirit of Elohim, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32  And be you kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as Elohim for Messiah’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 5:1  Be you therefore followers of Elohim, as dear children;
2    And walk in love, as Messiah also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to Elohim for a sweetsmelling savour.
3    But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4    Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5    For this you know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Messiah and of Elohim.
6    Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of Elohim upon the children of disobedience.
7    Be not you therefore partakers with them.
8    For you were sometimes darkness, but now are you light in the Master: walk as children of light:
9   (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Master.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore He saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Messiah shall give thee light.
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be you not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Master is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

 

STAND FAST IN THE FAITH

I Corinthians 16:13 Watch you, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
14 Let all your things be done with charity.
Psalm 1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Philippians 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Yahoshua Messiah:

II Peter 1:5  And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6   And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7   And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8   For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Master Yahoshua Messiah.
9   But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall:

 

BENEFITS OF OVERCOMING

Revelation 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of Elohim.
11  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
17  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
26  And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27  And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Revelation 3:5  He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before his angels.
12  Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My Elohim (God), and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of My Elohim, and the name of the city of My Elohim, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from My Elohim: and I will write upon him my new name.
21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne.
Revelation 21:7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his Elohim (God), and he shall be My son.

Fate of the wicked
8    But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

 

LET US OVERCOME

Isaiah 55:1  Ho, every one that thirsteth, come you to the waters, and he that hath no money; come you, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2    Wherefore do you spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto Me, and eat you that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3    Incline your ear, and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
6    Seek you YHVH while He may be found, call you upon Him while He is near:
7    Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto YHVH, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our Elohim (God), for He will abundantly pardon.
